By Road
From Fort William
take the spectacular road to Lochalsh (A82) via Invergarry and Cluanie through
awesome Glen Shiel or
from Inverness
take the beautiful road (A835, left at Garve on to A832, at Achnasheen left
on to A890) to Lochcarron (left at Lochcarrron on to A896 and right at
Auchtertyre on to A87 which takes you to Kyle of Lochalsh and over the
bridge to Skye).
The journey by road from Inverness or from Fort William by car is about two and a half hours depending on the road conditions.
Turn left at Kyle of Lochalsh to come over the Skye bridge. At the first roundabout turn right (sign-posted Portree A87). Stay on this road until you reach Broadford.
Go into Broadford past the Co-Op supermarket on your right. Go on a short distance until you reach the left hand turn by the Broadford Hotel sign posted to Elgol (B8083). Elgol is fifteen miles down this single track road but there are plenty of passing places to give way to oncoming cars. You will travel past spectacular lochs and see the awesome Cuillin ridge. Look out for Blaven (Bla Bheinn) and watch for soaring eagles that have made Blaven their home.
Coruisk House is on the right after the road sign announcing that you have entered Elgol! A warm welcome, tea and home-made shortbread awaits!
By Air
There are airports in Inverness, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Flights
go from Luton and Gatwick to Inverness if you are travelling from the South
of England, from Bristol from the South-West and from Birmingham and
Manchester from the Midlands. We recommend that you fly. We recommend that
you fly to Inverness. Hire cars are available at the airport.
By Train
Scotrail
runs trains from Inverness to the Kyle of Lochalsh and from Fort
William to Mallaig along a route that enjoys unsurpassed views.
By Sea
Ferries run from the mainland to Armadale in Sleat or from Mallaig (reached
through the gorgeous scenery along the 'Road to the Isles' from Inverness
to Mallaig). In the summer months (Easter to October) a small ferry runs
from Glenelg on the mainland to Kylerhea in Skye. The road from Kylerhea is
one of the most beautiful in Skye and a wonderful way to come on to the island.
By Coach
Stagecoach
and Citylink
coaches run every day from Inverness either direct to Broadford or changing
at Invergarry depending on the time of the coach that you take.
Buses run from Broadford to Elgol (B49 Monday to Saturday morning but no service Saturday afternoon or Sunday). Kyle Taxis will take you from Broadford to Elgol (telephone number +44 (0)15 9953 4323).
